Ever noticed the little file icon next to the application title bar?
That little icon is known as the Proxy icon, and it represents the actual file you are working on.
You can drag the icon to the Dock and drop it on top of Mail. Mail will automatically create a new email with the file as an attachment ready for you to send.
For a similar tip, try Command (Apple key) -clicking any title bar with a proxy icon. You'll get a drop-down menu tracing the path back to the icon's location on disk. (It's also fun to do it in Safari, which applies the same logic to URLs.)
