If you switched from Windows like I did, one of the first things you will notice on your new Mac is the lack of a second mouse button with the included Apple mouse. Then the first thing you will do is order a multi-button mouse. I ordered Apple’s own Mighty Mouse. Since the entire Mac community has been secretly waiting for Apple to release a 2 button mouse, Apple’s stores are out of stock with no estimated delivery date.
While I wait, I have to make do with a 1 button mouse (ok, I don’t have to, but I decided to in order to see what it has has been like for the Mac community for these past 21 years - see Mac OS history). I’m sure many/most mac power users have already bought a multi-button 3rd party mouse such as the Logitech’s MX 1000 Laser Cordless Mouse.
For those of you who are still using a 1 button mouse, the following tips/shortcuts will quickly and simply emulate a second click:
- Pressing the Control key when clicking on an item
- Pressing and holding the mouse button
Press and hold works surprisingly well, making my wait for Apple's Mighty Mouse a lot more tolerable.
